The hairy imperial spider

Although lacking the brilliance of her sister, the hairy imperial spider (Dicrostichus furcatus) is remarkably beautiful. Of a greyish color, her densely hairy abdomen bears an intricate mesh of fine, pale lines, contrasting sharply with the ground color. Her methods of securing prey are similar to those of the magnificent spider and re-quire no further discussion here. Her egg-sacs, shorter and stouter spindles, show an equal perfection of workman-ship. Both species range along eastern Australia from Queensland to Victoria.
